A message from Mary Buchanan
Born and raised in Loveland, I am the product of Thompson R2J schools, along with my 9 siblings. I am the proud parent of an amazing child in the district, and innumerous are the sacrifices I have and will continue to make to be sure that her and her peers have a quality, safe education.
My family has deep roots in our community. My parents taught me to fight for what is right, and to be a protector of the most vulnerable – and I believe the children of our society are just that!
I have been very involved in the community my whole life. I have an extensive history of volunteer work, both in and out of the classroom. I have spent a lot of time working in my daughter’s classrooms over the years, chaperoning field trips, and facilitating field day activities and class parties. I have also worked with people from all walks of life, on various community projects. My daughter and I always look forward to volunteering for the Associated Veteran’s Club Annual Thanksgiving dinner, serving veterans, the homeless, those without family, and other struggling individuals, who would otherwise be alone. Volunteer work is a very integral part of my life.
The special needs community is very near and dear to my heart, as well. I have had the pleasure and absolute joy of working one on one with nonverbal autistic children that I love, dearly, assisting them in their day to day activities, inspiring them to achieve their goals, and applauding their growth.
My career in risk advisory has also been a very rewarding experience. I find deep satisfaction in my work, knowing that I am making a difference in the lives of many in my community, and dedicating my time and energy to educate people on a very complex industry.
I fully believe that the solutions to many of the problems that our schools face are right around the corner, so long as we listen to one another and have respectful conversations. We may have different opinions and thought processes, but I truly believe that we all want what is best for the children of our district. Independent thought is truly a gift, that we shall not squander. It is what our nation is founded upon, after all!
